How can I help?
Volunteer Team Chaplains
There are five types of Chaplain:
Office Based Chaplain
Care Home Chaplain
Chaplain to the Homeless
A ‘Workplace Chaplain’ is normally based with a single employer (e.g. ASDA, County Hall) or will visit shops and businesses in a specific area of Taunton (e.g. Station Road).
An ‘Office Based Chaplain’ works in our office in the Market House. This includes supporting the Street Chaplains, dealing with visitors and signposting people to churches, organisations etc.
A ‘Street Chaplain’ will walk the main thoroughfares of the town, interacting with businesses, the shopping public, and the town centre community.
A 'Care Home Chaplain' will offer a listening ear and support to the residents and staff of a specific care home in partnership with any other church ministers who visit.
A 'Chaplain to the Homeless' engages with homeless and rough sleepers in the town working closely with the staff of Taunton Association for the Homeless and The Open Door Centre.
Training is provided, the work is rewarding and there is real sense of camaraderie amongst the chaplaincy team.
Do you feel called to Chaplaincy? Are you interested in joining our team of chaplains? If you would like to know more go to Contact Us and submit a question. We will happily send you an application pack.
Subject to the application and references being satisfactory, interviews are held and successful candidates will undertake training before agreeing an assignment to an employer or area.
Membership of a local church is essential as well as evidence of Christian maturity, to provide accountability and for pastoral care.

We rely on local churches and Christian organizations for funding, support from individuals is also very welcome. If you would like to give please go to the Financial Support page.
